About Westhill Institute

Westhill Institute is a bilingual (English/Spanish) IB World School serving students from early years through the Diploma Programme. Since 1992, we have built our community on the belief that every student's needs — whether rooted in learning style, ability, or personal interest — deserve to be recognized and met. Our curriculum blends the IB continuum, Common Core Standards, and the Nueva Escuela Mexicana framework to give every student the opportunity to discover their talents and reach their personal best.

The Role

We're looking for a Grade 9 Chemistry Teacher who can turn abstract chemical concepts into hands-on discovery for students transitioning through the final year of the MYP and preparing for the rigor of the Diploma Programme. You'll guide students through foundational chemistry — atomic structure, chemical bonding, reactions, and stoichiometry — while building the inquiry skills, lab safety habits, and scientific reasoning they'll carry into DP Sciences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and deliver engaging Grade 9 Chemistry lessons aligned with the MYP Sciences framework and vertically articulated toward DP Chemistry.
  • Design and supervise safe, inquiry-based laboratory experiences that build practical lab skills and scientific method fluency.
  • Differentiate instruction and assessment to support a range of learners, working collaboratively with the ESL and SPED departments.
  • Use the MYP Criteria A–D framework to assess student understanding, inquiry skills, and scientific communication.
  • Integrate biliteracy practices, reinforcing scientific vocabulary and reasoning in both English and Spanish where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Science department and grade-level teams on curriculum planning, unit design, and cross-disciplinary connections.
  • Maintain a safe, organized laboratory environment and ensure compliance with lab safety protocols.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, and colleagues via Toddle and Algebraix, and participate actively in the Westhill community.
What You Bring:
  • A degree in Chemistry, Science Education, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching secondary-level Chemistry or Science, ideally within an IB MYP or DP context.
  • Strong command of laboratory safety practices and hands-on science instruction.
  • Fluency in English; Spanish proficiency is an asset.
  • A collaborative mindset and genuine enthusiasm for inquiry-based, student-centered teaching.
  • Familiarity with IB assessment practices and a commitment to ongoing professional growth.
Why Join Westhill:
  • A well-established, values-driven IB World School with over 30 years of history in Mexico City.
  • A vibrant, bilingual learning community rooted in academic rigor and personal growth.
  • A collaborative, supportive team culture across departments and campuses.
  • A structured onboarding experience through our Faculty Passport program to help you settle in quickly.
