Overview
A message from our Lower School Director
As we reflect on the past academic year, I want to express my sincere gratitude to each of you. Your dedication, especially in welcoming new members to our community, has made Carpatos feel like a second home.
I’m thrilled about the future and believe that together, we can continue nurturing an inclusive learning environment that empowers student agency academically and personally. Our new student council led by 4th & 5th graders will guarantee to make this happen. Let’s embrace the upcoming year with open minds and a commitment to the PYP attributes, aligning with our mission and vision.
Thank you for being part of our educational journey!
Warm regards
-Sarah Smith

Curriculum
Our Elementary program follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP), The IB PYP prepares students for the intellectual challenges of further education and their future careers, focusing on the development of the whole child as inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world. The PYP curriculum is centered on six areas of instruction: language arts, social studies, math, science, the arts, and physical education. Learning is transdisciplinary in nature, with six units of inquiry being studied throughout each grade level. Each unit of inquiry guides students to gain an understanding of a central idea and is the foundation of studies across all subjects. Our language arts program is designed to allow students to become confident, competent readers and writers in English, Spanish, and French. There is a strong focus on the use of integrated technology within each unit of inquiry.
Learning and development are continually assessed through the use of a variety of formative and summative assessment techniques that measure students’ understanding of concepts, knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
The Primary Years Program also incorporates the Spanish curriculum provided by the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP). The subjects offered in the SEP Program are mathematics, science, history, geography and Spanish Literature.
